Station News - "LBC news" has taken over from "News Direct 97.3 FM" on 97.3 MHz in London. RDS PS Name is now _LBC____. New website too - www.lbc.co.uk. And of course they're simulcasting LBC News on 97.3 FM and 1152 AM until January 6 2003

FreeView - People with DTT set-top boxes are being invited to do a "Store Channels". This will give them the new DTT channel line-up, in readiness for the October 30th launch of BBC FreeView. Some of the radio channels are already carried eg 1Xtra, R5 Live, 5Live Sports Extra and 6 music. And ITV News is now 24 hours a day on DTT channel 41.

Propagation - Again an early Sporadic E opening to Italy around 0700-0745. From 1320-1430 it briefly touched Spain and concentrated on Portugal shortening in distance. Then at 1600 it opened again to Spain, until abruptly switching to Italy at 1650 and all gone by 1800. The Arab on 87.7 was tantalising, but no real idea where it was from - best beaming SSE.

Propagation - Early Sporadic E opening to Italy around 0735-0750. Then, Sporadic E opening to Italy began around 1235 UTC, then at 1320 it went up to 108 MHz with a vast amount of "mush" across the whole of FM - so much so that identifying stations was almost impossible. The noise floor was about 30 or 40 dB on the Sony's signal meter. This lasted until about 1430, when conditions settled down again and stations became clearer. From 1730 we started getting a mixture of "normal" length skip, plus some very short skip to Germany and Austria. The band went dead around 1850, until it opened again to Greece and then Italy at 1920 until 1955.

Propagation - Good Sporadic E to Eastern Europe from 1415 to 1915 and again to Italy 2000 to 2100. What was strange today was that it was best to have the beam pointing just south of East, even when Poland was coming in. Beaming directly to Poland tended to lose signal. Also the propagation kept returning to the same Polish stations before darting elsewhere again.

Dream 107.7 - Along with the change of name from Chelmer FM, the transmitter site has also changed. It used to be Danbury (TL784054) and is now Church Green (TL779050). The power is still 100 Watts vertical pol only, but the new site is a little higher, their antenna is at the top of the mast, and they no longer suffer attenuation to the SE.
BBC 2002 - is a temporary (6 month licence) station operated by the BBC to cover the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. The 2 kW transmitter at Saddleworth began test transmission on Friday 1st March, and launches with programmes at 6am on Monday 4th March. The frequency is 97.7 MHz. It has RDS PS: BBC2002_ , PI: C03E and RadioText "BBC2002 - The World's party for Manchester's Commonwealth Games".
