87.7 UNID - I've made up AIFF and WAV format sound files too. They're linked from this page. I'm very interested to find out what this station is so I need all the help I can get.
Propagation - Not so many pings ... even fewer with RDS. Something trying to come in around 1100, but right down in the noise.

87.7 UNID - What is this station? me what you think.
Propagation - Thought they'd be little going on ... not much RDS'd but there were many pings all day with Italy, Sweden, Germany etc. And at 1115 there was North American sounding audio, perhaps from tv channel A-6 on nominal 87.75 MHz.

November 19-21, 1999
Propagation - Nothing strong enough to be logged. There was a series of meteor pings on the 19th 0500-0730 giving Germany and others (Poland?), but none strong enough to RDS.
Website - I've added a search capability to this website. Give it a try from the main page. It'll become more useful when (if) I start breaking up this dxlatest page into smaller chunks, perhaps creating discrete logs pages etc. Anyway give it a try if you've got time.

Propagation - Noted an increasing number of pings from around 0035. But all were very short ... just fractions of a second. The frequency of pings increased steadily and appeared to peak around 0210-0215. But even then nearly all pings were very short. A few lasted for up to 30 seconds or longer, but all gave really weak signals. Nothing identified out of the weak background of stations ... just un-id's from Germany on 87.8, Italy on 87.7, and test tone on 87.6 MHz. Maybe the debris this year was much finer dust and particles, which burnt up at too high an altitude to have any radio (or visual) effects.

Propagation - Had the radio on 87.8 MHz last night ... and nothing logged. I've left it on 88.0 while I'm at work today to see if that produces anything. [update] Nothing logged on 88.0 either.

Propagation - Lots of meteor pings noted last night. Only 3 were strong enough to RDS ...
But listening to the audio recording there were many pings of France Culture that didn't RDS. There were many too that had blank carrier in the early hours, and later had something like Arabic or similar language - OM talk and drums. These seemed to be from a non-RDS station since some pings were definitely strong enough.
The new filters are a definite improvement.
Update - the ?Arabic station has been "pinging" all day. Sounds now like an Indian language, perhaps the Khalsa Radio RSL in Gravesend coming in via jet scatter.

Propagation - Still no tropo down here.

Propagation - Lots of tropo for listeners in the North Midlands and North of England ... Poland especially coming in well. Down here in London, the tropo is yet to really open up. During the evening I'm just getting improved reception of the usual near French and Belgian stations. The new filters did allow 106.0 to come in between local London stations on 105.8 and 106.2 MHz.

Propagation - Couple of brief meteors on what turned out to be a clear channel last night. The Radio Feltham RSL is completely nulled here by the horizontal 8 element!

Equipment - Replaced all 4 IF filters in the Sony SA3es with 110 kHz filters (Thanks BKL!). Selectivity improved somewhat, not earth shattering but better none the less. For instance I can now hear 88.7 Musiques and 106.0 RTBF-1 whereas before ... no chance. 88.7 is next to BBC R2 88.8 and 106.0 is sandwiched between Virgin 105.8 and Heart 106.2 MHz.

Propagation - Nothing noted, but there is currently a record-breaking high pressure over the NW of the UK. Nothing yet happening tropo-wise but keep alert for when it moves away.
There is a possibility of a meteor shower on Thursday 11 Nov in the evening, due to the long period Linear comet. More information about this is on NASA's news page A Surprise November Meteor Shower
